People with certain disabilities have more difficulty using web sites than others. Such disabilities include blindness and visually impairment, colour vision problems, and cognitive and learning disabilities.

Over the past few years, Knowhow Consulting staff have developed expertise for building web sites that are accessible to disabled or partially-disabled people. We have worked in close co-operation with some of the most respected occupational psychologists within and outside the government to ensure the success of our projects.

In building a web site for our client Yes2Work one of the key requirements was to build a site which would be accessible to a high proportion of its target customer base, which included people with a number of different disabilities. To ensure success, the web site was built according to the accessibility guidelines published by W3C, then validated using Bobby software from Cast, before being verified in person utilising a representative group of users with blindness and other disabilities.

The web site has achieved AA certification and is very much appreciated by the disabled, who are the main users of the site and who find the site easily accessible using computer screen reading/speech software and text only browsers such as Lynx.
